Art Institute Schools | Where To Begin

Since you have finally chosen art institute schools for your education, where do you begin your journey to a career in culinary, fashion, media, or other very lucrative careers? There are a few things that you must have in line, before you are going to be accepted into a school. This isn't saying that you can't be accepted right now, provided that you have the dreams, passion, and determination, you will be accepted. You will just have to complete these things after you're accepted, but before you can actually begin classes.

First, you must have completed high school, or at least have your general equivalency diploma, or GED. This is a pre-requisite to any school, especially art institute schools. They want the cream of the crop, and if you are reading this, you are that person! Contact your high school to get a copy of your transcripts. This will normally cost you a few bucks, around $7-$10, depending on your state. Make sure to find out if your art school requires the envelope to be mailed to them, sealed, or if you are able to have it mailed to your house, and you take it to them. Either way, DO NOT OPEN YOUR TRANSCRIPTS. You will have to re-order them.

Secondly, as mentioned above, is a dream, passion, and determination. Without these things, you are going to waste your money. If there is something holding you back from your dreams, take a good long hard look, to figure out what it might be. It is holding you back from a very rewarding future! Face it, this is what you want to do, so why not live your dream? Let go of your fears, and just do it!

Another thing that is good to have before getting accepted into art institute schools, is your portfolio. Whether this is some drawings, some recipes, some graphics, whatever the case may be, make sure you can show them your work. This isn't a job, but it will lead to one. The teachers at the school you attend, are the people to know in your area. They have been in the field the longest, and you know the old saying "It's not what you know, it's who you know." While this is true in most cases, it doesn't usually last. The relationships built on these foundations come and go with the wind. How would you like to actually have the knowledge to fall back on, when the "who ya know" relationship ends? Your portfolio is going to allow them to critique you. To help develop your strong points, and focus on your weaknesses to turn them into strengths. This is what a good school will provide you.

The last thing I can recommend to you before enrolling into a school, is to do your research on all of the art institute schools in your area. Talk with the instructors and staff. Get to know a couple students, ask them a few questions. Ask things like how easy is it to get help when you need it.. Are the teachers focused on students, or reading from a book. You do want a quality education after all, find some instructors that love what they do, and avoid ones that seem like they are just there for a paycheck. 9 times out of 10, they are, and your education doesn't matter to them, because they themselves can't advance your field, they aren't capable of seeing to it that you do.
